A story of strength and companionship in a racially conflicted world.

Black Cat on a White Porch provides readers the opportunity to understand racial tension and race relations during the 1960's, World War II era. Readers begin to feel a connection to the women of the story, as they deal with the daily struggles of life and of the time period of the story. The women have lived very different experiences in their lives, but one thing that connects them all to one another is their willingness and desire to continue living in a world where they are told they do not fit in. As well as in a world where the people they love are currently away at war, but the strength each of the main characters possess will hold strong until the end of time. Overall I was completely engaged in the characters stories in novel, and did not want to put it down! Very well-written book.

An Unexpected Thrill

This novel was an unexpected thrill. I went through different stages of emotion and inquisition. I found myself desperate to read to the end, because I needed to know what happened to each character. The twists and the way characters were introduced kept me interested the whole way through. It took me out of my normal, pleasure reading state of mind, and once I started, I had to finish the book. I read it in one day, because the emotions and experiences were so real. It rang true as a fictional account of the world in 1966, and it rings true of the world today. Reading Black Cat on a White Porch was a surreal experience. A very well-written book.

Truly amazing story - I personally find it very believable

To preface this comment: Why would someone destroy their house and take pictures - to use and save 25 years later? Also bringing in a parade of well respected researchers and not use their accounts for decades? I've seen many incredulous comments on this story. That it has to be a hoax. Understandable thinking upon first blush. To hear of an entity so powerful as to carry on consistent conversations via writing, as well as constantly apport objects is mind-blowing. I certainly doubted the story upon reading the description of the first book "A Deadly Haunting". The book was totally believable, however it's fictional-style story telling was off putting. Reading this second book just cemented my belief Deborah is telling the truth. The first hand accounts told matter-of-factly and combined with time stamped photos makes this believable indeed. This book was riveting. I highly recommend listening to some of Deborah's interviews and podcasts as well. It adds definite dimension (in conjunction with the books and pictures) hearing her describe the events. I can't get enough of this story. It's astounding.

The eternal,elephant in the room;Why did they stay in that house?
Also,did anybody work? It didn't seem so.
I believe these things happen but when basic facts such as these are not addressed the story begins to strain credulity.

About the Author
Arthur J. Keown is the Department Head and R. B. Pamplin Professor of Finance at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. He received his bachelor’s degree from Ohio Wesleyan University, his M.B.A. from the University of Michigan, and his doctorate from Indiana University. An award-winning teacher, he is a member of the Academy of Teaching Excellence; has received five Certificates of Teaching Excellence at Virginia Tech, the W. E. Wine Award for Teaching Excellence, and the Alumni Teaching Excellence Award; and in 1999 received the Outstanding Faculty Award from the State of Virginia. Professor Keown is widely published in academic journals. His work has appeared in the Journal of Finance, the Journal of Financial Economics, the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, the Journal of Financial Research, the Journal of Banking and Finance, Financial Management, the Journal of Portfolio Management, and many others. In addition to Foundations of Finance, two other of his books are widely used in college finance classes all over the country–Basic Financial Management and Personal Finance: Turning Money into Wealth. Professor Keown is a Fellow of the Decision Sciences Institute, was a member of the Board of Directors of the Financial Management Association, and is the head of the finance department at Virginia Tech. In addition, he recently served as the co-editor of the Journal of Financial Research for 6� years and as the co-editor of the Financial Management Association’s Survey and Synthesis series for 6 years. He lives with his wife and two children in Blacksburg, Virginia, where he collects original art from Mad Magazine.

John D. Martin holds the Carr P. Collins Chair in Finance in the Hankamer School of Business at Baylor University, where he teaches in the Baylor EMBA programs and has three times been selected as the outstanding teacher. John joined the Baylor faculty in 1998 after spending 17 years on the faculty of the University of Texas at Austin. Over his career he has published over 50 articles in the leading finance journals, including papers in the Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial Economics, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Journal of Monetary Economics, and Management Science. His recent research has spanned issues related to the economics of unconventional energy sources (both wind and shale gas), the hidden cost of venture capital, and managed versus unmanaged changes in capital structures. He is also co-author of several books, including Financial Management: Principles and Practice (11th ed., Prentice Hall), Foundations of Finance (8th ed., Prentice Hall), Theory of Finance (Dryden Press), Financial Analysis (3rd ed., McGraw Hill), Valuation: The Art & Science of Corporate Investment Decisions (2nd ed., Prentice Hall), and Value Based Management with Social Responsibility (2nd ed., Oxford University Press).

J. William Petty, PhD, University of Texas at Austin, is Professor of Finance and W. W. Caruth Chair of Entrepreneurship. Dr. Petty teaches entrepreneurial finance, both at the undergraduate and graduate levels. He is a University Master Teacher. In 2008, the Acton Foundation for Entrepreneurship Excellence selected him as the National Entrepreneurship Teacher of the Year. His research interests include the financing of entrepreneurial firms and shareholder value-based management. He has served as the co-editor for the Journal of Financial Research and the editor of the Journal of Entrepreneurial Finance. He has published articles in various academic and professional journals including Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Financial Management, Journal of Portfolio Management, Journal of Applied Corporate Finance, and Accounting Review. Dr. Petty is co-author of a leading textbook in small business and entrepreneurship, Small Business Management: Launching and Growing Entrepreneurial Ventures. He also co-authored Value-Based Management: Corporate America’s Response to the Shareholder Revolution (2010). He serves on the Board of Directors of a publicly traded oil and gas firm. Finally, he has served as the Executive Director of the Baylor Angel Network, a network of private investors who provide capital to startups and early-stage companies.

Great book, but expected to be for $200

I like this book. It's very easy to read and everything is explained really well. However as an accounting major the first 5 chapters have been basically review for me. However I do believe that this book is ome that anyone can benefit if investing for the future in stocks or bonds. The chapters are pretty short which is also nice but they do a great job explaining how or why. This should be a great book for any finance class you have to take in college.

Shooting Sporting Clays

This book is a delight to read and is the best explanation of the mechanics of the sport that I have come across. After shooting for a few years and trying a hundred different approaches (quite by accident) and a number of different coaches, these authors leave the reader with dozens of "Ah-ha" moments. I can't wait to get back to the clays range and put this knowledge to the test.
Strongly recommend this for any shooter.

Books on analytics tools are rarely found in the market. This concise book is great for managers and those interested in this field to better understand how analytics tools can be applied in businesses. The author also briefly touches on Big Data which is a fundamental background for understanding current situation of analytics. Data types and format are also mentioned.
This book is divided into seven major parts ranging from fundamental to some particular analytical techniques being used in businesses. The book provides analytics tools which cover Bare analytics, Analytics input tools/data collection methods, Financial analytics, Market analytics, Customer analytics, Employee analytics and Operational analytics.
The author uses concise “Questions” and “Answer” to explain the meaning of each tool. Practical examples are also included. You will also find helpful information in Tip and Trap provided in every chapter of the book. Operational analytics described in part seven is an interesting topic where it can be used for analyzing huge data and get the result in almost real time.
Conducting an analytics task is a challenge. It requires great effort, understanding, skilled employees, leadership and the right tools.
