VEDANTA THE SCIENCE OF CONSCIOUSNESS & DIVINITY, by Suhrit K. Dey

Consciousness is the primary topic of Vedanta philosophy which is the core of the Hindu Religion. It is non dual, omnipotent, omnipresent and omniscient. It is the Absolute. Vedanta calls It Brahman. Nature which is vibrant with vivid varieties of dualism, emanated from Brahman. According to Vedanta, that starting point was a humongous explosion. The universe was projected out of Brahman. Finally this universe will be burnt up by a humongous fire and will lose all of its material manifestations. At that point it will merge with Consciousness. However, this birth and demise of the universe is a cyclic process. The length of time of manifestation of the universe is equal to the amount of time it will stay unmanifested being one with Brahman. Hindu religion calls Brahman " God ". As consciousness, He exists in every element of the universe both in animate as well as in inanimate objects. So, all exists in One and One exists in all. Being bombarded continuously by millions of subtle forces of nature, as dictated by the law of entropy, our mind stays totally occupied with thoughts on the external world. These thoughts generate multitudes of desires. We foolishly chase them. This is the cause for our stress and suffering. Through meditation, one can get detached from all desires, transcend nature and attain the state of Brahman. This is the most blissful and the most peaceful state of existence. One envisions at this state a bright divine light encompassing the entire universe. All these and more have been discussed in the book applying stringent mathematical logic. Existence of God, the Absolute, is a scientific truth, not a faith-dependent fantasy.

Pointers to the divine through science
By Chandrashekar Kommera
Every thinking person, atleast once in his/her lifetime, is likely to ponder over these questions:

1) What is this world I am living in ?
2) Is there any definitive order for this world ? or all this is just a chaos ?
3) Is there any source from which this world has emerged ?
4) If there is such a source, how to know it ?
5) Who am I ? Am I this inexorably aging body ? Am I this continuosly changing mind & intellect
with incessantly rising desires & thoughts ?
6) Is there any way I can get permanent joy & security without being depedent on transient external objects, people & situations ?
7) What is the consciousness inherent in all the living & non-living things that makes them to exhibit specific properties in a consistent way ?
8) What is the relevance of image worship as some people do ?
9) Allright, all the above questions have been answered in some way or the other in religious/philosophical books,
but they are unable to convince my logical mind as it rebels against any blind faith that does not stand on any scientific basis.

For all such questions, this book, which points to Vedanta for answers, is the fervent & appealing response.
The author, Dr.Suhrit Dey ( who has more than 4 decades of experience as the professor of mathematics in USA, did research at NASA
& lectured at several prestigious scientific institutions around the globe, & also has the experience of the deeper study of the Vedanta)
uncovers the wrapper around the mystery of this creation layer-by-layer & provides the pointers to the ultimate truth by saying this based on Vedic literature(Upanishads & Bhagavad Gita):

"The cosmos consists of layers of matter in motion, like an onion, with the stationary Cosmic Consciousness, Brahman, at the very center. Yet he exists all around. In meditation, when his light becomes visible, all layers of nature become invisible"

"From the Cosmic Doublet, universes came out and into it they go back.
Brahman is within and without. The eternal silent witness of all. He is beyond our senses"

"Meditate on Him. Transcend nature. Enjoy freedom forever"

This is a must read book for anyone who is looking for pointers to permanent joy, eternal security & unshakable peace in this changing world.

Some of the insightful quotes from this book:
***********************************************************
1) Our mind is set up in such a way that good information which keeps us stress free is often forgotten.
However, all stressful information is stored up carefully.

2) Fortunately, even going through social, economic and political disorders which are infinitely complicated, the nation of India still upholds and talks with pride, the principles of the Vedas in her daily life. But certainly much more needs to be done.

3) Life ends only to become endless.

4) The holy OM represents Brahman whose light is awakening the dawn of the cosmos as perceived by the profoundly pious heart of a devotee which is an ocean of infinite purity.

5) I feel that science has no freedom. It is totally governed by the unseen laws of the universe of spirituality which is the reality of Vedanta.

6) The outside world can certainly give you pleasure. But it comes with a price & that price is pain. Only you are entitled to give yourself pleasure which is unbounded & brings no pain. Your own self is the storage of that pleasure.

7) The doctrine of Vedanta is not at all dogmatic. So it does not make any difference to which faith you belong.

8) Hinduism means accepting the presence of divinity in every object of nature & being respectful to all.

9) There are three straight forward mandates to have some peace of mind:
- Respect the human body. Maintain its purity & chastity
- Do good Karma
- Practice the fundamentals of Vedanta irrespective of your personal religious faith or belief.
Vedanta is like an academic discipline, independent of faiths.

10) Devotion cleanses mind & develops pure & intense love for God. I am sure that there are other ways to attain this enlightening state of devotion. However, image worshipping is one of the easiest ways.

Touching to the essence of consciousness
By Ramojus Reimeris
The book by professor Suhrit Dey, which was presented in Vilnius, brings a lot of thoughts. It discusses the questions of human existence and consciousness, the questions that has captured the human minds from the very beginning of the Earth. "Vedanta" helps to understand the unknown associations or guesses, helps to search and find the constructive way of thinking while connecting human consciousness with cosmic consciousness of the Universe - the Brahman. A very good example is the comparison of the glass filled with ocean water to the overall ocean.
I am pleased to say that I was honored by the respected author's visit to my home. Professor was interested in my connections with India, which I visited a few times, in my meetings with representatives of culture. Indeed the meetings with India left unforgettable experience. The monuments of culture, temples, alliance of Sanskrit and Lithuanian languages, nobleness of Indian people customs, multi-colored and diverse Indian reality - it's incomparable to anything else. The theme of India has a lot of space in my poetry. For that I was awarded with honorable J. Nehru award.
"Vedanta ", where science, philosophy and religion are joined into one, is like a key handed to us to unlock the unlimited space for our views about the world and humanity and self-improvement though meditation.
I remember how concentrated I was listening to Veda chanting trying to hear OM, like a human vitality sigh, like the voice of cosmos. I decided to put that holy sound into a poem reminding that OM resembles the world's cultural concepts like words homo or omnia. Also I found the very important resemblance in Lithuanian words: O Motina! (Oh Mother!), O Meile! (Oh Love!), O Mirtie! (O Death!). Maybe this is not a coincidence?
I want to congratulate the honorable professor with the book "Vedanta" and I wish him all the best in his scientific work. I hope that this book will be translated into Lithuanian language.

Interesting but not satisfying...
By G. Holmes Brown
While this is an intriguing book, it seemed that Dey spent far more time on the search to
demonstrate the existence of God mathematically than he did elaborating on the results.
Too, I was somewhat lost in the mathematics themselves, and while I am not a physicist
either I am more comfortable with the language of the latter. Nevertheless, an advent-
turous read.
